This fifth Earth Painting in the Echoes of Home series reflects the pivotal turning point in the journey—standing at a crossroads between the past and an uncertain future. The deep, earthy brown tones and solid, structured textures evoke a sense of stability beginning to emerge, while subtle variations suggest movement and the possibility of renewal. This piece symbolises the difficult yet hopeful step into the unknown, where rebuilding homes restores identity and offers the foundation needed to move forward after displacement (RICS, 2023).
This Earth Painting invites you to see change as an opportunity for growth.
Wood tray frames
This Earth Painting is set in a wood tray frame, crafted from reclaimed wood using traditional Japanese woodworking techniques. The frame symbolises the stability and protection women restore to their families after displacement, embodying the care and persistence required to rebuild a sense of safety and belonging.
More than a number
The numbering of these Earth Paintings serves as a reflection on the dehumanising processes refugees endure, where individuals are reduced to statistics instead of being recognised for their unique stories and inherent humanity.
