This tenth Earth Painting in the Echoes of Home series reflects the power of connection as homes and communities are rebuilt. The charcoal grey surface, punctuated with light specks, symbolises the bonds that emerge amidst uncertainty—small but significant moments of unity. The balanced textures evoke harmony, illustrating how women foster shared purpose and strengthen ties, becoming the cornerstone of peace and stability. Women’s leadership inspires collective resilience and unity during post-displacement recovery (UNHCR, 2021).

Butterfly joints
The corners of this Earth Painting are crafted with butterfly joints. These joints symbolise transformation, rebirth and personal growth. Handcrafted to form the cornerstone of the canvas, these joints are a visual reminder and tribute to the support women offer to their families and environments, as well as to their nurturing and caring role.

More than a number
The numbering of these Earth Paintings serves as a reflection on the dehumanising processes refugees endure, where individuals are reduced to statistics instead of being recognised for their unique stories and inherent humanity.
